Tommy Kelly

Actor/teacher

Born - 6 April 1925, New York City, USA
Died - 26 January 2016

Tousle-haired, freckle-faced boy actor whose facial colouring betrayed his Irish ancestry (as did his name!). Plucked from hundreds of applicants to play the title role in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938), he persevered with an acting career in between schooling, but quit the business at 25 to become a teacher, at first in America, but later in Liberia and Venezuela. Following his starring debut, he made Peck's Bad Boy with the Circus (1938), They Shall Have Music (1939), Curtain Call (1940), Military Academy (1940), Gallant Sons (1940), Nice Girl? (1941), Life Begins for Andy Hardy (1941) and Mug Town (1942), among others, before military service. After that, he returned with roles in The Fabulous Texan (1947), He Walked by Night (1948), Bachelor Bait (1949), Fine and Dandy (1950) and The Man with 30 Sons (1950), his last. He died from congestive heart failure.
