Unassuming but extremely talented English film editor, whose capabilities led to her working with some of the most famous directors in the world and gaining numerous award nominations, including the winning of an Oscar for her work on Lawrence of Arabia (1962). After beginnings as a nurse, she quickly established herself in post-war British cinema, at first as assistant editor on such films as The History of Mr Polly (1949), but flying solo from the early 1950s: The Pickwick Papers (1952), Forbidden Cargo (1954), Lost (1956), The Horse's Mouth (1958), Tunes of Glory (1960), Becket (1963), Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (1965), Great Catherine (1968), The Adventurers (1970), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), Aces High (1976), The Eagle Has Landed (1976), The Elephant Man (1980), Raw Deal (1986), Farewell to the King (1989), Chaplin (1992), In the Line of Fire (1993), Out to Sea (1997), Erin Brockovich (2000), Unfaithful (2002), Taking Lives (2004), The Golden Compass (2007), Extraordinary Measures (2010), Fifty Shades of Grey (2015), her last, and many more. Married for 30 years (till his death) to director Douglas Hickox. Film editor Emma E Hickox is one of their three children.
