Sparkling, dark-haired, husky-voiced French actress who was a joy in almost all her films, but never quite cracked the international market, despite bringing warmth and depth to her work. She made her debut in Treize a Table in 1955, the best-known of her subsequent work including Maigret Sets a Trap (1957), Love and the Frenchwoman (1960), Rocco and His Brothers (1960), La Bonne Soupe (1963), The Dirty Game (1965), Vivre Pour Vivre (1967), Dillinger is Dead (1968), Traitement du Choc (1971), Le Gifle (1974), Docteur Francoise Gailland (1976), Dear Detective (1977), All Night Long (1981), Mussolini and I (1984), Partir, Revenir (1985), Merci la Vie (1991), Les Miserables (1995), Hotel Shanghai (1997), The Piano Teacher (2001), Hidden (2005) and Boxes (2007), her last. She married Italian actor Renato Salvatori in 1962, although they were separated at the time of his death in 1988. She died from Alzheimer's Disease.
