Linda Cristal

Actress

Born - 23 February 1931, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Died - 27 June 2020

Raven-haired Argentinian actress with porcelain facial features. Born Marta Burges, she was brought up largely in Uruguay, suffering her parents' double suicide when she was 13. After studying drama and piano, she entered Mexican films at 21 with Forbidden Desire. She went to Hollywood four years later to further her career, but that was disrupted by car crash injuries. Never quite a marquee name thereafter, she found her claim to fame as Victoria Montoya in almost 100 episodes of the TV western series The High Chaparral from 1967 to 1971. Her film CV includes Comanche (1956), El Diablo Disappears (1957), Last of the Fast Guns (1958), The Fiend Who Walked the West (1958), The Perfect Furlough (1958), Cry Tough (1959), The Alamo (1960), The Pharaohs' Woman (1960), Two Rode Together (1961), Slave Girls of Sheba (1963), Panic in the City (1967), Mr Majestyk (1974) and Love and the Midnight Auto Supply (1977), her last, although she continued acting on daytime TV until the late 1980s. Actor Yale Wexler was the third of her three husbands; she did not remarry after their divorce in 1966. She died in her sleep.
