Trevor Peacock

Actor/songwriter

Born - 19 May 1931, Edmonton, London, England
Died - 8 March 2021

Short, square-built, bushy-haired English character actor with large, florid features who, after a career mainly spent in minor roles, became familiar to TV viewers in his seventies as Jim Trott in the long-running comedy series The Vicar of Dibley. Less well-known was the fact that he pursued a successful career as a pop songwriter in his thirties. After brief film roles in Girls at Sea (1958), Operation Bullshine (1959), What a Whopper (1961) and The Barber of Stamford Hill (1962), Peacock settled down to a career on stage and TV. Occasional later films included Catch Me a Spy (1971), Lady Caroline Lamb (1972), Twelfth Night (1980), Hamlet (1990), The Trial (1993), Roseanna's Grave (1997), Sunshine (1999), Dog Eat Dog (2001), Fred Claus (2007) and Quartet (2012), his last. He also wrote song hits in the 1960s for Adam Faith, Billy Fury and Herman's Hermits. He died from vascular dementia, survived by his (second) wife, actress Tilly Tremayne.
