Born - 7 July 1911, Hazlehurst, Mississippi, USA
Died - 12 September 2009

Dark-haired American character actress with oval, current-bun features, a stage actress (and former model), whose highest profile film role was probably as one of Alexander Knox's daughters in Wilson (1944). She made her screen debut in Orson Welles' first film, the lost Too Much Johnson (1938) and remained a fan for life. Other appearances in a prolific run came in Lady Gangster (one of 12 films she made in 1942), The Keys of the Kingdom (1944) and Dragonwyck (1946), the last in this stage of her career. From the 1960s on, she played a few more film cameos, the last being in Too Scared to Scream (1985). She married German actor Peter Van Eyck in 1940. They later divorced and she married another actor, Zachary Scott; he died from a malignant brain tumour at 51 in 1965 after 13 years of marriage.
