L.Q. Jones

Actor

Born - 19 August 1927, Beaumont, Texas, USA
Died - 9 July 2022

Tall American 'western' actor with bonily-defined, lived-in face, coat-hanger shoulders and long fair hair. Born Justice McQueen, he was a former rancher brought to Hollywood in 1954, taking his screen name from the character he played in his debut film, Battle Cry. He was soon a busy actor whose powerful, rangy frame was frequently seen as hardened and/or unkempt rednecks and westerners. Many subsequent credits include Target Zero (1955), The Gun Runner/Santiago (1956), Men in War (1957), The Young Lions (1958), Buchanan Rides Alone (1958), Warlock (1959), Flaming Star (1960), Guns in the Afternoon/Ride the High Country (1962), Hell is for Heroes (1962), Showdown (1963), Major Dundee (1964), Nevada Smith (1966), Hang 'Em High (1967), The Wild Bunch (1969), The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970), The Hunting Party (1971), Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973), Mother, Jugs and Speed (1974), Winterhawk (1975), Grayeagle (1977), Fast Charlie - the Moonbeam Rider (1978), Timerider - The Adventure of Lyle Swann (1982), Lone Wolf McQuade (1983), Bulletproof (1987), The Legend of Grizzly Adams (1990), Lightning Jack (1994), Casino (1995), The Mask of Zorro (1998, as Three-Fingered Jack!), Route 666 (2001) and A Prairie Home Companion (2006). He died from natural causes.
