Long-faced. curly-haired British leading character player, a stalwart of UK comedies in the 1960s, a period when he almost became a star - and made some very popular (top 10) recordings of such novelty songs as Right Said Fred and Hole in the Ground. Film appearances were too few, but included those in Davy (1956), Yangtse Incident (1957), Dunkirk (1958), Tommy the Toreador (1959), Two Way Stretch (1960), Nothing Barred (1961), The Wrong Arm of the Law (1962), The Mouse on the Moon (1963), Carry On Jack (1963), Carry On Spying (1964), She (1965), You Must Be Joking!
