Marsha Hunt

Actress

Born - 17 October 1917, Chicago, Illinois, USA
Died - 6 September 2022

Strikingly pretty, huskily-voiced, phenomenally long-lived American actress and occasional singer with dark auburn hair. Resident at MGM through the war years and beyond, she often played demure but plucky heroines in B movies, and gentle or tragic supporting roles in bigger films. Born Marcia Hunt, she began to get an interesting variety of roles in the late 1940s, but her career was virtually halted when she was blacklisted in America's communist witch-hunts. She played a few mother roles later on, and remained actively involved in the civil rights movement: The Virginia Judge (1935), Gentle Julia (1936), Easy Living (1937), The Hardys Ride High (1939), Pride and Prejudice (1940), Blossoms in the Dust (1941), Kid Glove Killer (1942), Cry Havoc (1943), Music for Millions (1944), The Valley of Decision (1945), A Woman Destroyed (1947), Raw Deal (1948), Mary Ryan, Detective (1949), Jigsaw (1949), Take One False Step (1949), The Happy Time (1952), Diplomatic Passport (1954), No Place to Hide (1955), No Sleep Till Dawn (1957), Blue Jeans (1959), The Plunderers (1960), Johnny Got His Gun (1971) and Chloe's Prayer (2006), her last theatrical feature. Her final appearance was in the TV movie Empire State Building Murders in 2008. She married and divorced director Jerry Hopper before remaining married to producer Robert Presnell for 40 years until his death in 1986.
