French fashion photographer and one-time racing driver who directed a number of commercially successful soft-core sex romps in the 1970s. His work includes Emmanuelle (1974), The Story of O (1975), Madame Claude (1977), The Last Romantic Lover (1978), Private Collections: The Island of Sirens (1979), Girls (1980), Lady Chatterley's Lover (1981) and The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik Yak (1984), his last film before returning to photography for glossy magazines. Survived by his wife Anne, a sculptor, he died from cancer.
