Tallish, very slim but shapely French blonde actress with escalator eyebrows and piquant personality, a child actress and model who progressed swiftly to teenage and adult roles and appeared in Italian, British and American films as well as those made in her native France. Born Marie-Helene Demongeot, she made her debut in Children of Love (made in 1944, but not seen until the early 1950s), her busy subsequent film CV including Papa, Mama, Ma Femme et Moi (1955), It's a Wonderful World (1956, as Mylene Nicole), The Witches of Salem (1957), The Evil That Is Eve(1957), Bonjour Tristesse (1958), Blonde for Danger (1958), Upstairs and Downstairs (1959), Under Ten Flags (1960), The Singer Not the Song (1960), Gold for the Caesars (1962), Doctor in Distress (1963), Fantomas (1964, and ensuing series), Mission for a Killer (1965), Tendre Voyou (1966), The Private Navy of Sergeant O'Farrell (1968), Twelve Plus One/The Twelve Chairs (1969), The Hideout (1971), J'ai Mon Voyage! (1973) and You Must Live Dangerously (1975). Continuing to act into middle- and old-age, she made L'Echappatoire (1977), Un Jour, Un Tueur (1979), Signed, Furax (1981), Surprise Party (1983), Paulette (1985), The Man Who Lived at the Ritz (1989), La Femme dans le Vent (1993), L'Home Ideal (1997), 36 Quai des Orfevres/36 (2004), Sous les Toits de Paris (2007), Mommy! (2011), On My Way (2013), The Midwife (2017) and Maison de Retraite (2022), her last. Her (second) husband, director Marc Simenon died young at 60 in 1999 after 30 years of marriage. Demongeot died from peritoneal cancer.
