Megamind (3D)
Stars: Voices: Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, David Cross, Ben Stiller, Justin Theroux, J K Simmons
Director: Tom McGrath
A good-looking cartoon feature which, just as in Despicable Me, spotlights an evil genius who turns good. Megamind (Ferrell) is born as a (literally) blue baby with a huge cranium and a facility for dark deeds. Unfortunately he comes into the world at the same time as a baby destined to be the goody-goody Metro Man (Pitt), blessed with 'the power of flight, invincibility and great hair'.
This comic battle between good and evil wants to be witty and smart, but its tired if trusty situations betray its lofty ambitions. Sparks of wit from the screenplay really need to be spattered all the way through. That said, the characters are beautifully drawn, and the vocal work of the stars, Fey especially, is right on the money. It just lacks an identity of its own.
