Your Sister's Sister

4/10

Stars: Emily Blunt, Rosemary DeWitt, Mark Duplass

Director: Lynn Shelton

A three-hander talkathon, which starts at a funeral, perversely the only scene in the film you're guaranteed not to sleep through. The deceased's ex (Blunt) is worshipped from afar by his brother Jack (Duplass), a slobby (and unemployed) alcoholic misfit who goes off to her holiday cabin and promptly beds her lesbian sister (DeWitt), who's expectedly saying there. Well, they do drink a lot of tequila.

When Blunt, who's as much in love as he is with her, finds out, she's devastated - but no more so than Jack when he finds out DeWitt has punctured the cabin's condoms as she's desperate for a baby.

And that's the plot, which makes only marginally more sense than the title, which makes no sense at all. And the key event involving the condom doesn't hold water in more ways than one. DeWitt gives the film's most relaxed performance, and she's the only character here to whom you feel you can relate.
