Love Me Till Monday

2/10

Stars: Georgia Maguire, Tim Plester, Royce Pierreson, Sarah Jayne Butler, Christopher Leveaux, Charlotte Gallagher, Ludo Hardy, Tyler Gayle, Bennett Warden, Anneli Page

Director: Justin Hardy

In a film that looks as if were shot on a £50 note, newcomer Maguire (a dead ringer for the young Ruth Gemmell) plays Becky, a 25-year-old newbie at a digital advisory centre. Within three months, she's been bedded by both her beaky boss (Plester) and the mixed-race colleague (Pierreson) she fancies. After both relationships quickly implode, she's in floods of tears and begging her absent mother to come home.

None of the characters in this amateurish hodgepodge is very likeable, while the shaky hand-held camera often invites you to look away from the screen rather than at it. But, if you saw this on TV as Reading's equivalent of The Only Way is Essex, I suppose it might just get by.

Newcomer Maguire, in the thankless role of the girl whose prize possession is The Book of English Magic - she fancies herself as a bit of a spell-caster, but ends up burning the book as well as her bridges - has stunning brown eyes and is by far the best of an otherwise sad bunch of would-be actors.
