Dark, doomy, but definitely routine crime thriller, in which five cops/ex-cops pull off a precision raid, making off with a stash of money but also, and most importantly, with a box wanted by the Russian Jewish Mafia (improbably headed by an almost unrecognisable Winslet).
The robbers also seem to be masterminded by an unknown man, but one of their number (Reedus) is killed by the Russians, to (does this make sense?) persuade the gang to do a second job which will complete their assignment.
Enter Chris (Affleck), a newcomer to the cops' precinct, who's partnered with one of the gang (Mackie) on patrol. The film then segues off into something else altogether, which has only the flimsiest of connections with the main plot.
Performances are pretty perfunctory, and Winslet's Russian accent decidedly dodgy: exactly what she is doing in this only she and her agent know. Lots of gun action, though, as well as drug use and strip-club nudity, traditional elements of American blue-collar thrillers like this one.
