Sonic the Hedgehog

Director: Jeff Fowler
This is fast and furious fun for kids of all ages, and a good deal better than you might expect from the benchmark being set at the moment from video and kids-TV spin-offs.
The video age equivalent of cartoonland's Speedy Gonzalez - the 'fastest mouse in all Me-h-ico' - Sonic is the fastest hedgehog in, well, the world. A cobalt-blue alien creature, Sonic has happily settled into his new home on Earth, until he accidentally knocks out the power grid, attracting the unwanted attention of evil mastermind Dr Robotnik (Carrey), who wants Sonic to complete his plans to achieve - well, what else? - world domination.
So Sonic teams up with his human friend Tom (Marsden) in a race across the globe to save his new planetary home.
Carrey is a joy back in his old gurning groove in a flawed but fun and vividly colourful movie that will happily and harmlessly while away an hour and a half for the whole family in the present-day lockdown.
