Lady Godiva
Stars: Phoebe Thomas, Matthew Chambers, Simon Williams, Petra Markham, Isabelle Amyes, Eric Carte, Nicholas Parsons
Director: Vicky Jewson
This Brit comedy's only claims to your attention are a naked leading lady - played by Holby City's pencil-slim Thomas - riding through the streets of not Coventry but Oxford, and an impersonation of Prince William. Neither is likely to set the 'dreaming spires' on fire.
Thomas plays a teacher who seems to have been responsible for the death of her brother (though we never find out why). Worried about the future of her pet project, The Art Factory, she runs into horse-loving playboy celebrity Michael (Doctors' Matthew Chambers) - nicknamed The Godiva Man for reasons never really explained.
After falling for her and then (unconvincingly) falling out, Michael offers to bet 100 grand that she won't ride naked through the city streets. There's more but, mercifully at only 86 minutes, not too much.
Acting is poor throughout, with the exception of James Wilby, who appears only briefly at the beginning. The script is abominable and the direction comes in fits and starts. Why anyone would want to see it is beyond belief. Voyeurs, perhaps, though they shouldn't expect a voluptuous (or even sensual) Lady G. Make no mistake, and excuse the blasphemy, this Godiva is Godawful.
