She's Out of My League

4/10

Stars: Jay Baruchel, Alice Eve, T J Miller, Lindsay Sloane, Mike Vogel, Krysten Ritter, Nate Torrence, Kyle Bornheimer, Jessica St Clair

Director: Jim Field Smith

Although it has one or two amusing scenes, the problems with this romcom are that its dialogue is unreal and none of its situations believable. Baruchel, from Tropic Thunder, plays Kirk, a dopy airline employee whose girlfriend (Sloane) has broken up with him; he also has edgy relationships with his co-workers and rather odd parents.

Then he meets 10-out-of-10 (the film is big on numbers) Molly (Eve) who has soon, to his amazement, asked him out on a date. This goes badly, but bridges are mended and he does eventually end up in his underwear with the girl of his dreams, only to blow it by babbling on about only being a five-out-of-10 himself, and expecting some bigger defect about her than the fact that she has webbed feet. Sorry, but, like everything else in the film, the scene is a complete phony.

Eve's real-life mum and dad, British actors Trevor Eve and Sharon Maughan, inexplicably appear as her screen parents, attempting mumbly American accents. If this was intended as a good luck token, it didn't work.
