John Carson

Actor

Born - 28 February 1927, Colombo, Sri Lanka (then Ceylon)
Died - 5 November 2016

Suave, much-travelled, saturnine, dark-haired and velvet voiced (aurally a dead ringer for James Mason) actor, born in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) but largely raised in New Zealand before coming to the UK post-war to begin an acting career. Despite a debut in Teheran/The Plot to Kill Roosevelt (1947), he made no more films until the mid 1950s: The Adventures of Quentin Durward (1955), Ramsbottom Rides Again (1956), Intent to Kill (1958) and Beyond This Place/Web of Evidence (1959). Soon, he became equally busy in crime second-features and horror films: Identity Unknown (1960), Seven Keys (1962), Master Spy (1963), Smokescreen (1964), Blood Beast from Outer Space/The Night Caller (1965), The Plague of the Zombies (1966), The Last Shot You Hear (1968), Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970) and Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter (1973). Later, he, his wife, actress/writer Luanshya Greer, and their five children moved to South Africa, where he continued to act in film and TV: City of Blood (1983), An African Dream (1987), The Last Warrior (1989), The Light in the Jungle (1990), The Sheltering Desert (1991), Woman of Desire (1993), Mandela and De Clerk (1997), Operation Delta Force II (1998), I Dreamed of Africa (2000) and Doomsday (2008). Back in the UK, he made the short Picture Perfect (2013) and the documentary Amicus Vault of Horrors (2015), his last assignment.
