A cousin of Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton, Merrill, born Nedenia Hutton, was a latecomer to TV and film acting after 10 years in the theatre. She was married for 20 years to her first husband, then 21 to her second (actor Cliff Robertson). She had been married for more than 27 years to her third husband, actor/producer Ted Hartley, at the time of her death from Lewy Body dementia.
