Jean Porter

Actress

Born - 8 December 1922, Cisco, Texas, USA
Died - 13 January 2018

Cute, peppy, red-haired actress whose career in cheerfulness stalled when she married blacklisted director Edward Dmytryk in 1948. Signed by MGM in 1943 after an early career as a dancer, then prairie flower in 'B' westerns, the diminutive dynamo had made her debut as a precocious teenager in Song and Dance Man (1936). Subsequent films include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938), The Under-Pup (1939), One Million B.C. (1940), Kiss the Boys Goodbye (1941), Heart of the Rio Grande (1942), Calaboose (1943), The Youngest Profession (1943), Andy Hardy's Blonde Trouble (1944), Bathing Beauty (1944), Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in Hollywood (1945), What Next, Corporal Hargrove? (1945), Easy to Wed (1946), Sweet Genevieve (1947) and Two Blondes and a Redhead (1948). After Dmytryk was reinstated, she made Cry Danger (1951), G.I. Jane (1951), The Clown (1953), Racing Blood (1954) and The left Hand of God (1955), her last, although she continued acting on TV until the early 1960s. She and Dmytryk remained married for more than 50 years, until his death in 1999.
