Irrfan Khan

Born - 7 January 1967, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India
Died - 29 April 2020

Slightly bag-eyed, but good-looking, narrow-headed, concerned-looking, deliberately-spoken Indian actor with distinctive lips, perhaps his country's best-known star on the international scene in the 2000s, and the winner of countless awards. Born Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan, he was a promising cricketer who took up acting in his late teens, and had soon embarked on a 100-plus film career, during which he proved himself a master of understatement: Salaam Bombay! (1988), Drishti (1990), Karamati Coat (1993), Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One (1997), Such a Long Journey (1998),The Warrior (2001), Dhund: The Fog (2003), Chocolate: Deep Dark Secrets (2005), Rog (2005), The Darjeeling Limited (2007), A Mighty Heart (2007), Slumdog Millionaire (2008), New York I Love You (2009), Life of Pi (2012), The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), The Lunchbox (2013), Jurassic World (2015), Inferno (2016), Puzzle (2018) and Angrezi Medium (2020), his last. He was diagnosed with the rare condition of neuroendocrine cancer in 2018, and died after being hospitalised with a colon infection. His screenwriter wife Sutapa survives him, along with their two sons.
