Joan Weldon

Singer/actress

Born - 5 August 1930, San Francisco, California, USA
Died - 11 February 2021

Lithe, chestnut-haired, high-cheekboned opera singer of cool personality who was signed to a three-year-contract by Warners in 1952, the studio promptly shunting her into leading roles in a different kind of opera - one with horses. Despite competent acting ability, she made only a few more films before going back to a singing career in 1958, playing in road company productions of famous musicals until her retirement in 1980. Born Joan Welton, she made her film debut in The System (1952), following that with The Grace Moore Story/So This is Love (1953), The Stranger Wore a Gun (1953), The Boy from Oklahoma (1954), The Command (1954), Them! (1954), Deep in My Heart (1955), Gunsight Ridge (1957), Day of the Badman (1957) and Home Before Dark (1958), her last. Survived by her doctor husband of 56 years, and by a daughter.
