Barbara Lawrence

Born - 24 February 1928, Carnegie, Oklahoma, USA
Died - 13 November 2013

Why silky blonde Barbara Lawrence didn't become a star is something of a mystery. She could do it all - act, dance and sing, but was perhaps at the wrong studio, 20th Century-Fox, who had a superfluity of feisty blonde entertainers. A child prodigy, she was 'Little Miss Hollywood of 1942' and signed by Fox at 17. For them, she made Billy Rose's Diamond Horseshoe (1945), Margie (1946), Captain from Castile (1947), Give My Regards to Broadway (1948), The Street with No Name (1948), A Letter to Three Wives (1949), Mother Knows Best (1949), Thieves' Highway (1950) and more, before leaving to freelance: Two Tickets to Broadway (1951), The Star (1952), Arena (1953), Her Twelve Men (1954), Oklahoma! (1955), Man with the Gun (1956), Joe Dakota (1957) and Pay the Devil (1957), her last. In later years, she sold real estate and wrote a published novel. Three times married and divorced, she died from kidney failure.
