Glamorous, dark-haired (later blonde), dark-eyed, full-lipped Lebanese-born cabaret star and actress in almost 100 films. Born Jeanette al-Ferghali, she made her debut in The Clock Strikes Seven (1938), as a 10-year-old singing prodigy, but it was The Heart Has Its Reasons (1945) that made her a star.
