Road to the Well
Stars: Laurence Fuller. Micah Parker, Marshall R Teague, Barak Hardley, Caitlin Gallogly, Rosalind McIntire, Marcia Rodd
Director: Jon Cvack
This indie slow-burner gets better and more fascinating as it goes along, but my the first half hour is pretty hard going, so don't reach for the off switch too soon.
Frank (Fuller) leads a frustrating office life, and his day is not improved when he finds his girlfriend (Jordana Capra) being bedded by his immediate boss (Tim Martin Gleason).
His drifter friend Jack (Parker), sets him up, unknown to Frank, with a prostitute but, while they are having sex in Frank's car, the girl (McIntire) is set upon by a man with a mask and knifed to death, leaving Frank unconscious.
Jack suggests they drive off with the body, cut it up far away, and hi-tail it back home, so the two men set off on what amounts to a road trip, thought it's one with some dangerous curves towards the end.
The incisive Parker is by the far the best thing in this curate's egg of a film which contains a mixture of enervating, surprising and rewarding moments.
