Dark-haired Mexican actress of girlish attractiveness, in Hollywood from the early days of sound, originally to star in Spanish-language versions of the horror hits The Cat Creeps (1930), The Cat and the Canary (1930) and Dracula (1931). Other credits, mostly in exotic roles, include The Veiled Woman (1929), East of Borneo (1931), Canta (1932), Broken Lives (1934), The Invader (1936), Blockade (1938), Tropic Fury (1939), Green Hell (1940), The Westerner (1940), Two-Gun Sheriff (1941), Resurreccion (1943), Miguel Strogoff (1944), The Crime Doctor's Courage (1945) and Winner Take Nothing (1952), her last. Born Natalia Guadelupe Tovar, she was the mother of actress Susan Kohner, and grandmother of directors Chris and Paul Weitz. Married to producer Paul Kohner from 1932 (he died in 1988), Tovar passed away from heart problems at the great age of 106.
