Diminutive, shapely, boisterous American singer and actress with fair, curly hair, born Gladys Sorey. Beginning as a dancer, then band vocalist, she found her way to Hollywood by 1941, but never rose above guest spots, or 'B' feature and serial heroines. After a debut as a nightclub singer in The Feminine Touch (1941), she made Here We Go Again (1942), Let's Face It (1943), The Contender (1944), And the Angels Sing (1944), Hail the Conquering Hero (1944), Duffy's Tavern (1945), the serial Chick Carter, Detective (1946), Bowery Buckaroos (1947), Blonde Ice (1948), Badmen of Tombstone (1949), Beat the Devil (1953) and Street of Darkness (1958), her last. Later she became a unit publicist and dialogue coach. Director Charles Barton, who predeceased her, was the third of her three husbands.
