Harry Alan Towers

writer/director

Born - 19 October 1920, London, England
Died - 31 July 2009

One of the British (and international) film community's most colourful and prolific characters, Towers, who started as a child actor, then radio writer, produced 'pot-boiler' films all over the world, writing many of them under the name Peter Welbeck. His only marriage was to Austrian starlet Maria Rohm (Helga Grohmann, 1945- ) in 1964. She was 18 and he 43, but the union lasted 45 years until his death (in Canada) from pneumonia and heart failure. Some of his many films as writer were Coast of Skeletons (1963), Mozambique (1965, Rohm's debut), Rocket to the Moon (1967), Castle of Fu Manchu (1969), Blue Belle (1976), Dragonard (1987), Bullet to Beijing (1995), The Sea Wolf (2001) and Sumuru (2003). He had completed the script of a new version of Moll Flanders.
