Richard C Sarafian

Director

Born - 30 April 1930, New York City, USA
Died - 18 September 2013

Chubby-faced, technically skilled American director, most prominent in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when he made his best-remembered film, Vanishing Point (1971). Directing episodes of TV series from as early as 1961, his film career was spotty at first. After a low-key debut with the western Terror at Black Falls (1962), he made Andy (1965), Run Wild, Run Free (1969), Man in the Wilderness (1971), The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing (1973), The Next Man (1976), Sunburn (1979), Gangster Wars (1981), The Bear (1984), Eye of the Tiger (1986), Street Justice (1988) and Solar Crisis (1990), his last, among others. His son Deran, one of five children, all of whom work in films, is also a director. Sarafian died from pneumonia after breaking his back in a fall.
