Andre Previn

Musician/composer

Born - 6 April 1929, Berlin, Germany
Died - 28 February 2019

Small, floppily dark-haired, beaky-nosed composer, orchestra leader, jazz and classical pianist, born Andreas Priwin. Countless Hollywood credits included eight Oscar nominations, for music score or songs, in Three Little Words (1950), Kiss Me Kate (1953), It's Always Fair Weather (1955), Bells Are Ringing (1960), Elmer Gantry (1960), Two for the Seesaw (1962), Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967) and Jesus Christ Superstar (1973). He took home the Oscar itself for his music scores in Gigi (1958), Porgy and Bess (1959), Irma La Douce (1963) and My Fair Lady (1964). Occasional appearances on screen included those in I've Always Loved You (1946), Invitation to the Dance (1956) and Pepe (1960), but he is remembered by many for his legendary TV appearance on UK's The Morecambe and Wise Show. Five times married, including (third) actress Mia Farrow, he had five biological and five adopted children. Previn died a month short of his 90th birthday.
