Balding (latterly greyly moustachioed and bearded), not-too-tall American small-part actor often cast in meek roles. He trained as an architect but, after Korean war service, combined acting classes wth architectural chores. Film work was extremely rare until he progressed to elderly character roles: Bananas (1971), Love and Death (1975), Faith (1990), Love, Cheat & Steal (1993), Walking to Waldheim (1997), Through Thick and Thin (1999), Vice (2000), Road to Redemption (2001), Winged Creatures (2007), Hancock (2008), Table for Three (2009), Little Fockers (2010), Super 8 (2011), Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon (2011), J Edgar (2011), Fred & Vinnie (2012), The Lone Ranger (2013), Coffee Town (2014), Adulthood (2015) and Bad Therapy (2020), his last.
