Carol Channing

Actress/singer/dancer

Born - 31 January 1921, Seattle, Washington, USA
Died - 15 January 2019

Tall, ever-smiling, throaty-voiced blonde entertainer, a cavern-mouthed Broadway legend who lit up such musicals as Hello, Dolly!, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Wonderful Town. Films were an afterthought, although she was nominated for a best supporting Oscar in Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967). Other movie credits include Paid in Full (1950), The First Traveling Saleslady (1956), Skidoo (1968), a voice in Shinbone Alley (1970), One More Time (1974), Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978), another voice in Thumbelina (1994), Homo Heights (1998), Broadway: The Golden Age (2003), Forever Plaid (2008) and Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age (2018), her last. Still singing and clowning into her nineties, she died from natural causes a few days shy of her 98th birthday.
