Lean, darkly handsome Uruguayan leading man, equally seen as heroes and villains. Born Gustavo Rojo y Pinto, he began acting as a boy. His profile in international films was at its highest in the 1950s and 1960s, when he made the majority of his 150 films: Ahora Seremos Felices (1938), My Children (1944), Goya's Last Love (1946), Tarzan and the Mermaids (1948), The Great Madcap (1949), Stronghold (1951), Tirma/The Island Princess (1954), Alexander the Great (1956), Action of the Tiger (1957), The Miracle (1959), It Started With a Kiss (1959), Caesar Against the Pirates (1962), The Death Ray of Dr Mabuse (1963), Old Shatterhand/Apaches' Last Battle (1964), Genghis Khan (1965), The Tall Women (1966), Madigan's Millions (1966), Witch Without a Broom (1967), The Christmas Kid (1967), The Valley of Gwangi (1969), Land Raiders (1969), El Condor (1970), Natacha (1971), The Whip (1978), La Golfa del Barrio (1982), Corruption (1984), Sabor a Mi (1988), Outside the Law (1998) and El Camino (2007), his last, although he continued acting on Mexican TV into his nineties. Actress Erika Remberg was the second of his three wives.
