Serious-faced blonde American child player, chiefly remembered for her role as Amy Reed in The Curse of the Cat People (1944). After her mother moved to California, the moppet was spotted for films and made her debut in Last of the Duanes (1941). For the next eight years she was pretty busy: I Married a Witch (1942), The North Star (1943), And Now Tomorrow (1944), Incendiary Blonde (1945), The Virginian (1945), Child of Divorce (1946), The Searching Wind (1946), The Two Mrs Carrolls (1947), Song of Love (1947), The Boy with Green Hair (1948), A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1948) and Blondie Hits the Jackpot (1949). She contracted polio at 13, and made only one further film, The Member of the Wedding (1952), although she was an interviewee in the 2007 documentary Val Lewton: The Man in the Shadows. Later she became a teacher, and survived ovarian cancer in 2005; a more recent recurrence, however, proved fatal.
