Bill Kerr

Actor/comedian

Born - 10 June 1922, Capetown, South Africa
Died - 29 August 2014

Deadpan actor and comedian with dark, tightly-curly hair, South Africa-born but Australia-bred, who, after beginnings in Australia as a child performer, came to Britain in post-war years as a stand-up comic, quickly gaining a following with such catchphrases as 'Don't wanna worry yer' and 'I've only got four minutes' and his references to Wagga Wagga in Oz, where he actually did live for 14 years. Later he became part of the ensemble cast in the hugely successful radio comedy series Hancock's Half Hour. Film appearances included Harmony Row (1933), The Silence of Dean Maitland (1934), My Death is a Mockery (1952), Appointment in London (1952), The Dam Busters (1954), The Night My Number Came Up (1955), The Shiralee (1957), The Sundowners (1960), The Wrong Arm of the Law (1962) and Doctor in Clover (1966). Back in Australia, as a moustachioed, balding character actor, he made Deadline (1981), Gallipoli (1981), The Year of Living Dangerously (1982), Razorback (1983), The Coca Cola Kid (1984), The Lighthorsemen (1987), Over the Hill (1991), Let's Get Skase (2001) and Southern Cross (2004), his last. He died from cardiac arrest.
