Michael Sarrazin

Actor

Born - 22 May 1940, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada
Died - 17 April 2011

Dark-haired, soulful-looking Canadian actor with large eyes and prominent lips, much in demand for top movie roles in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He began in locally-made shorts - Selkirk of Red River (1964) and You're No Good (1965) - then signed with Universal studios, who put him in two westerns, Gunfight in Abilene (1966) and Journey to Shiloh (1967). He was denied the chance to make Midnight Cowboy, but other loan-outs made his name: The Flim Flam Man/One Born Every Minute (1967), In Search of Gregory (1968) and especially They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969). Though he continued to get good work, his career, hampered perhaps by being cast opposite powerhouse leading ladies, never again touched those heights. His films also included The Sweet Ride (1967), A Man Called Gannon (1968), Eye of the Cat (1969), Never Give an Inch (1971), The Groundstar Conspiracy (1972), Frankenstein: The True Story (1973, as the creature), For Pete's Sake (1974), The Gumball Rally (1976), Caravans (1978), Fighting Back (1982), Joshua Then and Now (1985), Captive Hearts (1987), Lena's Holiday (1991), Bullet to Beijing (1995) and The Peacekeeper (1997). Feardotcom (2002) was his last theatrical film, although there were two TV movies later. He died from cancer.
