Angharad Rees

Actress

Born - 16 July 1949, Cardiff, Wales, UK
Died - 21 July 2012

Girlish, delicate-looking Welsh actress, one of a long line of husky-voiced British blondes that includes Glynis Johns, Joan Greenwood and Susannah York. On TV at 19, she was in star roles by her early twenties, but her film career did not progress as she might have liked, and it was on the small screen that she found her highest-profile role, as Demelza in the successful series Poldark. Film roles are fewer than one remembers, but include Jane Eyre (1970, ironically in support of Susannah York), Under Milk Wood (1971), a murderess in Hands of the Ripper (1971), Anyone for Sex? (1973), Moments (1974), The Little Girl in Blue Velvet (1978), The Curse of King Tut's Tomb (1980, originally for TV), and The Wolves of Kromer (1998), her last. In more recent times, she concentrated on a jewellery business she had founded herself. At one time married to the actor Christopher Cazenove, she died from pancreatric cancer.
