Silvio Narizzano

Director

Born - 8 February 1927, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Died - 26 July 2011

Canadian-born director who made the majority of his films in the UK, but never repeated the success of his earlier years. He was directing for TV from the mid 1950s, and began his movie career in the following decade, beginning with the Hammer horror Fanatic (1965). His breakthrough movie was Georgy Girl (1966), but Narizzano failed to capitalise on its success. Blue (1968) was a bizarre western, and Loot (1970) a poorly-received version of Joe Orton's acclaimed play. Narizzano's later work included Redneck (1972), Why Shoot the Teacher? (1976), The Class of Miss Macmichael (1978) and Choices (1981); then various pieces for TV until 1995. His longtime partner, the writer Win Wells, died in 1983 at only 47, and Narizzano became a semi-recluse in his last years.
