Best remembered as a teenage actor who played the bullying Flashman in the 1951 film Tom Brown's Schooldays (1951), before he embarked on a second career as a magician, the alert-looking, brown-haired Forrest was born John Forsht in America, but brought to live in the UK by his English mother when still a child. For a while he flourished in youthful roles: Great Expectations (1946), Vice Versa (1947), The Guinea Pig (1948), Bonnie Prince Charlie (1948), Adam and Evelyne (1949), The Franchise Affair (1951) and Gift Horse (1952); then turned to parts noted for their intrinsic Englishness, mostly on TV, but a few movies: Very Important Person (1961), Nearly a Nasty Accident (1961), Decision at Midnight (1963) and The Bawdy Adventures of Tom Jones (1975), his last.
