Patricia Medina

Actress

Born - 19 July 1919, Liverpool, England
Died - 28 April 2012

Flashingly dark-eyed, raven-haired Medina was among the most beautiful actresses of the 1940s and 1950s but, although talented, her looks confined her to playing spirited heroines in swashbucklers, 'easterns' and other exotic adventures. She began in British films as a teenager: Dinner at the Ritz (1937), Secret Journey (1939), Crooks' Tour (1940), They Met in the Dark (1943), Don't Take It to Heart (1944) and Waltz Time (1945). She wed actor Richard Greene in 1941 (the marriage ended 10 years later) and followed him to Hollywood after World War Two, soon establishing herself in splashy roles that emphasised her beauty but undervalued her talent: The Foxes of Harrow (1947), The Three Musketeers (1948), The Fighting O'Flynn (1949), Fortunes of Captain Blood (1950), Dick Turpin's Ride (1951), Aladdin and His Lamp (1952), Lady in the Iron Mask (1952), Siren of Bagdad (1953), Botany Bay (1953), Phantom of the Rue Morgue (1954), The Black Knight (1954), Pirates of Tripoli (1955), Confidential Report (1955), The Beast of Hollow Mountain (1956), Buckskin Lady (1957), Battle of the V1 (1958), Count Your Blessings (1959) and Snow White and the Three Stooges (1961). She married actor Joseph Cotten in 1960 (he died in 1994) and made few further films, her last being Timber Tramp in 1973.
