Michael J Pollard

Actor

Born - 20 May 1939, Passaic, New Jersey, USA
Died - 20 November 2019

Diminutive American actor, born Michael Pollack, with light brown (later wispily white) curly hair, cherubic face and demonic smile. An Actors' Studio graduate (Marilyn Monroe was a classmate), and on TV at 19, he shot to fame as Bonnie and Clyde's accomplice C W Moss in 1967 (he was nominated for an Oscar) but, as the leading actor he briefly became, proved tricky to cast and his films were not too successful. Later he returned in blink-eyed character roles which kept him fiercely busy up to the turn of the century. After a film debut in (1959), there were many more movies, including Hemingway's Adventures of a Young Man (1962), Summer Magic (1963), Woman of Summer/The Stripper (1963), Caprice (1966), The Wild Angels (1966), Enter Laughing (1967), Hannibal Brooks (1968), Little Fauss and Big Halsy (1970), The Legend of Frenchie King (1971), Dirty Little Billy (1972), Sunday in the Country (1974), Between the Lines (1977), Melvin and Howard (1980), America (1982), Heated Vengeance (1985), Roxanne (1987), Scrooged (1988), Next of Kin (1989), Tango & Cash (1989), Dick Tracy (1990), Another You (1991), Skeeter (1993), Mad Dog Time/Trigger Happy (1996), Merchants of Venus (1998), Tumbleweeds (1999), Forever Lulu (2000), House of 1000 Corpses (2003), Remembering Nigel (2009), The Woods (2012) and The Next Cassavetes (2020), his last. He died from cardiac arrest, his (only) marriage to actress Beth Howland having ended in divorce many years earlier.
