Narrow-faced, slightly bag-eyed, fair-haired South African-born character actress (in Britain from the early 1950s) best remembered as nosy neighbour Noreen in the long-running TV series One Foot in the Grave. Film appearances (from the 1960s on) were mostly minor, but included Privilege (1967), Frenzy (1972), Black Jack (1979), Yentl (1983), Mountains of the Moon (1990), The Turn of the Screw (1992), A Man You Don't Meet Every Day (1994), In Love and War (1996), So This is Romance? (1997), Suzie Gold (2004), Antonio's Breakfast (2005), Scoop (2006), Two Ladies and a Hill (2010), Late Bloomers (2011), The Owner (2012), 55 Steps (2017) and the shorts Knock at the Door (2018) and Blind (2019).
