Beefy Afro-American star football player and later actor. Tried (and acquitted) on the murder of his wife Nicole in 1995, he was convicted of armed robbery 13 years later and sent to prison. No great actor but a considerable personality, his films included Death of a Gunfighter (1969), Why (1973), The Towering Inferno (1974), The Klansman (1974), Killer Force (1976), The Cassandra Crossing (1976), Capricorn One (1977), Firepower (1979), Hambone and Hillie (1983), Back to the Beach (1987), The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988, and two sequels), No Place to Hide (1992), Frogmen (1994) and the short The Lemon Twist in 2004. The father of five, he died from cancer. The O.J. stood for Orenthal James.
