Tall, dark, classically handsome and sturdily built British actor of smooth tones and somewhat inflexible personality, a solid performer whose highest profile was as cut-price James Bond figure Charles Vine in three low-budget 007 rip-offs of the 1960s. Born Anthony Adams, He had begun mixing acting with teaching before getting a foothold in TV drama from 1961. Films followed: A Pair of Briefs (1961), A Prize of Arms (1962), The Great Escape (1963), This is My Street (1964), Licensed to Kill (1965), Where the Bullets Fly (1966), The Fighting Prince of Donegal (1966), Somebody's Stolen Our Russian Spy (1967), Fathom (1967), Subterfuge (1968), The House That Dripped Blood (1970), Von Richthofen and Brown (1971) and The Fast Kill (1972), then into TV drama series. Later he appeared in Pyrates (1991) and Day of the Sirens (2002), his last. He died from cancer.
