Ted Post

Director

Born - 31 March 1918, Brooklyn, New York City, USA
Died - 20 August 2013

Journeyman American director whose partnership with Clint Eastwood, first in the TV series Rawhide, then in a couple of films, was a highlight of a varied career. Post had started directing on TV in 1950, and there were a lot of TV movies in the career that followed, some of quite high quality. His first feature film, The Peacemaker (1956) went largely unnoticed, but he caught the eye with his second, a distinctive little western called The Legend of Tom Dooley (1959). After directing Eastwood in Hang 'Em High (1967, an homage to the star's success in spaghetti westerns), Post made Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1968), the best of several sequels to the original) and, then, among a plethora of movies for television, The Baby (1972), Magnum Force (1973), C.A.S.H. (1975), Go Tell the Spartans (1977), NightKill (1980), The Human Shield (1991) and 4 Faces (1998), his last.
