Hairy, round-faced Chinese actor who had a sporadic film career until finding his niche as exotic villains in continental and international action films. Born Wang Chunyang, he made his film debut in Paul's Home (1939), later Chinese films including Hualien Harbour (1947). In the late 1950s, he moved to Italy and, at 40, began the major part of his film career: Last Train to Shanghai (1959), The Dam on the Yellow River (1960), The Mongols (1961), 55 Days at Peking (1962), Pirates of Malaysia (1963), Spy in Your Eye (1965), Taste for Killing (1966), Dr Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs (1966), Blood and Guns (1968), Desert of Fire (1971), The Deadly Trackers (1972), Shanghai Joe (1973), Superfly TNT (1973) and Milarepa (1974), before moving to Taiwan, where he died from heart failure at 96. His last movie credit came as an ancient grandfather in Close to You (2010).
