Edith Fellows

Actress

Born - 20 May 1923, Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Died - 26 June 2011

Diminutive, brown-haired, dark-eyed, long-faced, appealing Hollywood child and teenage actress with peppy, faintly zany personality, equally at ease in comedy, westerns or sentimental drama. Raised by her grandmother, she came to Hollywood at the age of four and was in films two years later. For the next 14 years, she kept busy on more than 50 titles, among them Madame X (1929), Daddy Long Legs (1931), Emma (1932), Fra Diavolo (1933), Jane Eyre (1934, as Adele Rochester), Dinky (1935), Pennies from Heaven (1936), Life Begins with Love (1937), Little Miss Roughneck (1938), Five Little Peppers and How they Grew (1939, and three sequels), Nobody's Children (1940), Her First Beau (1941) and Girls' Town (1942). The subject of a high-profile custody case in 1936, Fellows later suffered depression and a nervous breakdown before returning to acting, mainly on TV, in her late fifties: a few more films included Happy Endings (1983), The Hills Have Eyes Part II (1985) and In the Mood (1987), her last theatrical feature, although she continued to work in TV series until 1996.
