Tall, strongly-built Afro-American actor, a world-renowned football star who turned to acting and was immortalised as the boxing hero's adversary, and later friend, Apollo Creed, in the Rocky films. Other films, sometimes as the lead in action movies, include Magnum Force (1973), Bucktown (1975), Friday Foster (1975), Semi-Tough (1977), Force 10 from Navarone (1978), Death Hunt (1981), Braker (1984), Predator (1987), Action Jackson (1988), Hurricane Smith (1992), Happy Gilmore (1996), Little Nicky (2000), The Sweet Spot (2003), The Sasquatch Gang (2006), The Comebacks (2007), Sheriff Tom vs the Zombies (2013), Think Like a Man Too (2014) and a voice in Toy Story 4 (2019), his last. Three times married and divorced, he is survived by two children.
