Carla Laemmle

Dancer/actress

Born - 20 October 1909, Chicago, Illinois, USA
Died - 12 June 2014

Fluffily blonde, diminutive ballet dancer and occasional actress, the niece of Carl Laemmle, the co-founder of Universal Studios. Born Rebekah Laemmle, she occasionally contributed 'bits' to her uncle's movies, notably the opening dialogue in Dracula (1931). Other appearances include those in The Phantom of the Opera (1925), Topsy and Eva (1927), The Broadway Melody (1929), King of Jazz (1930), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (1935), the serial The Adventures of Frank Merriwell (1936) and On Your Toes (1939). In advanced old age, she decided to play more small roles in films: The Vampire Hunters Club (2001), Pooltime (2010), A Sad State of Affairs (2013), The Extra (2014) and Mansion of Blood (2014), her last - the only 100-year-old player working in films. She died from heart failure.
